Where to Go After the Game: A Non-Northgate Guide
Northgate sits across University Drive from Kyle Field. After a home game it fills up. The lines are long, the rooms are loud, and the drinks are pours rather than cocktails. If that's the night you want, take it. If you want the next chapter, drive ten minutes north. Downtown Bryan is five miles up Highway 6 and built for the audience Northgate doesn't serve well.
This is a guide for anyone leaving Kyle Field looking for something that isn't Northgate.
How far is Downtown Bryan from Kyle Field?
About five miles, ten minutes by car. North on Highway 6 to East 26th Street, exit, head west to Main. The drive has no real game-night choke point. Most post-game traffic flows south into College Station; almost nothing flows north into Bryan. Rideshare drops at the door of any Downtown Bryan venue, ten minutes from the stadium at normal weekend pricing.
Who this works for
- Alumni back for a reunion weekend who spent four years in Northgate and want something different now.
- Parents in town for the game who want a 21+ night that doesn't feel like a freshman bar.
- Graduate students who'd rather drink at a real cocktail bar than wait in line at The Chicken.
- First dates and small groups who came for conversation, not chants.
- Current students who want a weekend away from the same room they were in last Saturday.
The walking route on Main Street
Three Batson venues sit within three blocks. The whole route is under five minutes on foot.
- Citrus & Salt at 121 N Main, ground floor. All-agave tequila and mezcal cocktail bar with over 100 bottles on the back wall. The slow start of the night.
- West End Elixir Co. at 107 S Main, two blocks south. Cocktail and whisky bar with a hundred cocktails on the menu, a hundred whiskies on the shelf, and a humidor lounge.
- Vice at 121 N Main, upstairs above Citrus & Salt. Hookah lounge and DJ floor. The late-night anchor.
Game day at Vice
Vice opens Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 10 PM. DJs run the floor every night Vice is open. Friday is Latin Night with DJ Spaceman: reggaeton through bachata until 2 AM, a rotating tequila brand sponsor, free swag and tastings at the bar. Thursday and Saturday rotate the lineup.
On a home football Saturday the room runs a higher-energy set. More hits, fewer deep cuts, a crowd that came to celebrate.
VIP booths take reservations by phone or text at (832) 285-4598. Vice is 21 and over with valid ID.

The Northgate alternative, briefly
If you want Northgate, take Northgate. Dixie Chicken since 1974 is a Texas institution, and the rest of the corridor knows exactly what it is. The argument here isn't that Downtown Bryan is better. It's that Downtown Bryan is different, ten minutes away, and worth knowing about when Northgate isn't the answer.
